Transport for NSW | Central Coast and Blue Mountains, New South Wales

Project overview
The NSW Government is delivering a New Intercity Fleet to replace the trains carrying customers from Sydney to the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and the South Coast. To service and maintain the New Intercity Fleet, a purpose-built train maintenance facility is being built at Kangy Angy. As part of the New Intercity Fleet route clearance program, modifications are also needed along the rail corridor to accommodate the new and existing trains. Station platform upgrades are also required at Katoomba to enable track slewing adjustments. Overhead wiring (OHW) adjustments and power supply upgrades are also required in several sections. The upgrades involve replacement of OHW portal track structures, conductors, traction substation upgrades, access road establishment inside and adjacent to world heritage area, local and state listed heritage items and with extremely limited access across a majority of the project footprint.
Our involvement
EMM has been engaged since 2018 to act as Environmental Representative and in 2019 was appointed by the continuum Alliance (TfNSW/Lendlease/CPB) delivery team as Environment and Community Manager. EMM’s involvement requires a highly experienced team to deliver solutions in a fast-paced environment. The project team in the Blue Mountains required quick thinking and innovative solutions due to the limited available track time and the remote and difficult access and communications environment in tunnels and deep cuttings.
